Title II Compliance Date Extended
The U.S. Department of Justice has extended the compliance date for the 2024 ADA Title II Final Rule by 367 days. For the University of Iowa, the new compliance date is April 26, 2027.
The extension provides additional time for institutions to align digital content, systems, and services with updated accessibility requirements. At the University, digital accessibility efforts will continue as planned. Work underway remains in place, and units are expected to maintain progress toward improving content structure, remediating high-impact materials, and building accessibility into routine workflows.
Tools and resources developed in anticipation of the original compliance date will remain available throughout the extension period. These resources are intended to support consistent, sustainable progress across campus.
Organizational update
The Accessibility Task Force will conclude its work and dissolve on April 24 as planned. Over the past 18 months, the Task Force has helped establish direction, build capacity, and advance accessibility practices across the University.
Ongoing accessibility operations will continue under the leadership of the A-Team, a cross-functional group comprising members of the Office of Civil Rights Compliance, the Information Security and Policy Office, the Office of General Counsel, and other campus stakeholders.
Continuing the work
While the timeline has shifted, the University’s accessibility obligations remain. The extension offers additional time for implementation but does not change the direction of the work.
