W3C Web Accessibility Initiative WCAG 2 Wordmark with icons for dexterity, vision, cognition, hearing, speech, and whole-person

As of October 5, 2003, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 (WCAG 2.2) is an official recommendation of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). WCAG 2.2 extends WCAG 2.1 by adding nine new success criteria, definitions to support them, and guidelines to organize the additions. The W3C has published an informative guide to the new guidelines: visit "What's New in WCAG 2.2".

Accessibility@IOWA is working with the Big Ten Academic Alliance CIOs IT Accessibility Group and other peer institutions to review the new success criteria and consider their formal adoption. Although the University of Iowa continues to observe Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1, Level AA (WCAG 2.1, Level AA) as our institutional standard, web developers and content providers should become familiar with the new guidelines and apply them where possible to any new content or applications.
