In general, non-web technologies are covered by Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, as described in the final rule of the United States Access Board.

  1. The accessibility standard for non-web technologies is Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (Section 508), as described by the United States Access Board in “Text of the Standards and Guidelines - United States Access Board”.
  2. Some non-web technologies may be addressed in Section 255 or other relevant federal or international standards. If you cannot identify the relevant standard for your technology, contact the IT Accessibility Group.
  3. Non-web technologies are to be interoperable with appropriate assistive technologies, such as screen readers.
  4. Non-web technologies are to be accompanied by a website or other support mechanism that enables users to contact a person responsible for the resource.
