The University of Iowa is committed to providing equitable, accessible, and inclusive experiences for faculty, staff, students, visitors, and members of the University community. In support of this commitment, the Digital and IT Accessibility Group welcomes University staff members to participate in the University of Iowa Accessibility Liaisons Group.

UI Accessibility Liaisons is a community of practice intended to grow and distribute digital and IT accessibility practice throughout the UI campus. The intended role of an Accessibility Liaison is to serve as a unit’s first point of contact for any accessibility issues. Depending on the needs of the unit, the Liaison might also:

  • Oversee the Siteimprove Accessibility module for unit websites;
  • Maintain a working knowledge of accessibility principles and guidelines;
  • Provide basic guidance on IT Accessibility Policy and Standards;
  • Perform basic testing and remediation of unit technologies and tools;
  • Assist with the development of Equally Effective Alternate Access Plans;
  • Organize and facilitate accessibility services from the IT Accessibility Group;
  • Participate in the UI Accessibility Technical Standards Committee

Becoming a UI Accessibility Liaison

Membership in the Liaisons is open to UI faculty, students, and staff. Some technical experience is recommended; however, UI Accessibility Liaisons will receive specialized training and resources on digital and IT accessibility policy, standards, and practice.
