Standards for Accessible Technology

Web applications, Web pages, and Websites

Effective June 1, 2020, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1, Level AA is the technical standard for University websites to measure compliance with the University’s IT Accessibility Policy. WCAG 2.1 AA applies to web pages, sites, and applications delivered using web protocols. View the full WCAG 2.1 recommendation.

Non-Web Technologies

The standards for non-web technologies intended for use in official University business are the revised standards of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, as described by the United States Access Board in Appendix A of “Text of the Standards and Guidelines - United States Access Board” (Section 508), including the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, version 2.0, Level AA, as described by the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative in Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)  2.0 (WCAG 2.0).

Technologies not addressed in WCAG or Section 508 should be considered to be covered by Section 255, as described by the United States Access Board in Appendix B of “Text of the Standards and Guidelines - United States Access Board” (Section 255).

Other

Any functionality not addressed in the above standards should be considered to be covered by the Functional Performance Criteria as described by the United States Access Board in Appendix C of “Text of the Standards and Guidelines - United States Access Board”, Chapter 3, Subsection 302.
